ANOINTING TO HEAL THE SICK

In The The Healing School volume 1, I emphasized on the person of the Holy Spirit as God, the direction and the flow of the Spirit, the river, wave and wind. My aim was to help you build a good relationship and to enjoy continuous movement of the Spirit of God.

Now, I want to talk about the healing anointing to strengthen the Spirit flow and help you understand the reality of the power of God for service.

You will agree with me that if there was ever a time when the church of Jesus Christ needed power, it is now. The power is the anointing of the Holy Spirit as promised by Jesus after the resurrection day, for his particular calling on your life. “Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me…” (Acts1:8).  Powerlessness is not part of our calling as Christians. The Bible declares that our effectiveness in witnessing can only be confirmed “with signs and wonders following us” (Mark 16:17 – 18). The fulfillment of that promise is the purpose of the anointing of the Spirit.

The anointing is not the baptism of the Holy Ghost. It is not the presence, but there must be His presence for the anointing to be activated, although they are all important. The anointing is the power of God to serve. You will surely know when the presence of the Holy Spirit has come upon your life. And you will know immediately when he has empowered you spiritually, mentally and physically to heal the sick. After salvation, another thing a believer should value more is the anointing.

When Jesus walked the earth, His anointing was evident by the miracles he performed and the lives he touched; demons could not stand the power that flowed from him. We have access to the same anointing. “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast our demons. Freely you have received, freely give…” (Matthew 10:8).  It is our ability to know how to receive the ability to fulfill that command.

RECEIVING THE HEALING ANOINTING
We are to be zealous to receive the healing anointing. “But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way”. What are the best gifts? Could one gift of God be better than another? No. the best gift is the gift that is needed to do the work of God in your life. How do you receive the healing anointing?

We are to be fully equipped, having every anointing we need to accomplish everything we are to accomplish for the kingdom. “That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:17). If you understand the gifts of the Spirit as tools to do the work, then God will have no problem to get you fully equipped, having all the tools you need and the expertise to effectively use them.

To receive the healing anointing is not difficult because they are received ‘freely’. To receive these free gifts, you simply spend quality time; get down on your knees long enough, praising, praying, asking and listening under his manifest presence. Ask him to equip you with the gifts of healing. “I humble myself with fasting…” (See Psalm 35:13). Fasting, especially when it is accompanied with praying in tongues, is very essential in preparing you to receive the anointing of God. Humbling oneself is not so much about your look but your action. There are lots of ‘humble’ looking people who are full of pride. But when you do the action of fasting, you are actively sacrificing your pleasures and humbling yourself before God. You come into right relationship with God and His presence dwells with you. When God dwells in you, you are filled with power.

How do you enter into the manifest presence of God? First, you must understand that there is a difference between the promised presence and the manifest presence. God is everywhere. But doesn’t mean He is outwardly manifesting His presence everywhere. Jesus said that if we love Him and kept His commandments, He would manifest Himself and He will manifest Himself to us. The manifest presence is God ‘showing up’ or demonstrating His presence. The gifts of the Spirit are called the manifestation gifts. “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal” (I Corinth. 12:7), because through them God ‘shows up’.

The best gifts are determined by what the situation will require and we are admonished to covet earnestly the best gifts. The secret to receiving the anointing is in waiting upon God until He releases it upon you. You will know in your Spirit when He has charged you up and released upon you. He is the Lord of your schedule. Time is not so important here. It may take Him three days, one week, and one month, depending on how rusty you came to him. The most important thing is not time but getting the power to minister effectively.

Your confidence will give confidence to the person needing the healing, so you must be prepared in all things. There will be a time when you are surprised and feel unprepared. Don’t panic! Take a breath and trust God is working in you. “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:20).

THE VESSEL AND THE ANOINTING
