How Can I Understand The Directions Of The Spirit

How To Understand The Directions Of The Spirit

A question many Christians ask about the directions of the Holy Spirit is, "How can we go to where the spirit desires us to go, and how can we understand what the spirit wants today and now?” To go where the spirit wants, we must understand His direction and be ready to change in the ways He wants; because, nothing happens randomly in the spiritual world.

The Holy Spirit moves in a specific direction, with a previously defined purpose. The Holy Spirit never moves randomly or by chance but always follows the specific direction given by the Father, just as He did with Jesus. At any movement, He may move in a wave of healing, creative miracles, in the glory of God, in a prophetic river to affirm people’s callings, or in releasing the supernatural on a church that is advancing in revelation. He always has a direction in which He wants to go. Remember that in the days of Moses, God’s glory always moved in a direction that was marked by a pillar of fire by night and a massive cloud by day. "And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of, to give them light; to go by day and night" (Exodus13:21).

As we have seen, at that time God moved in the physical dimension because the people were spiritually dead. They did not yet know the Lord or His ways, and thus He took visible forms to reveal Himself. Today, He does not need to guide us by a pillar of fire or cloud because the Holy Spirit dwells within us. But in the river of the Spirit, there is always a direction that we must recognize in order to flow with the new things of the Spirit for each occasion.

Every minister of God must know how to watch, see, and discern the direction in which the Holy Spirit is moving. When I preach, it frequently happens that I can feel in what section of the congregation there is the strongest spiritual activity, as well as where the people are placing the greatest demand on God by their faith and seeking. That is why a prophetic worship leader is needed, as Chennai was in David’s tabernacle; we need someone who can lead the worship and discern the direction of the spirit of God, recognizing where He is heading. (1Chronicles15:22)

The Holy Spirit always responds to the need of those who are hungry and thirsty for Him. When I tell the people in which direction the Holy Spirit is moving, they can align themselves with Him and direct their hunger to what is available from heaven at that time. As we seek to follow God’s Spirit, let us keep in mind that the movement of the Holy Spirit makes no distinction with regards to people’s gender, age race or nations. He works both in the lives of pastors and members, male and female. He manifests freely in the lives of those who are hungry and thirsty for revival.

BE LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
When the Holy Spirit of God has priority in our lives, He protects us from falling into the traps, attacks, lives and leads us to manifest His power against the odds. He is the one who gives us a precise answer for every ministry situation, such as letting us know when someone needs a miracle, when someone need to forgive another person in order to be freed from pain and sickness.

There cannot be two captains at the helm of our lives. Either we will be in control or He will. We must give our lives to God, die to ourselves, crucify the flesh, and let Christ be our captain. We have to stop walking and living in the flesh! If we insist on running our own life, if we choose to do our own ambitions and desires, if we choose to follow our own will, we will be disqualified from walking in the spirit. Only the guidance of the Holy Spirit will lead us to safety in the will of God.

God wants you to manifest His power on earth. He sent His Spirit to be your guide, to make his will know and to reveal His plans. You just have to surrender and yield to him. Empty yourself by giving up your selfish will, your self-centered ambitions, and your human reasoning, and let God live in you. If today you say, "Holy Spirit, I want you to help me with my prayers, my ministry, my business and marriage, and everything else," then He will place a desire in your heart to seek Him, to renounce your flesh, and to yield to Him. This is how you will become spiritually empowered and has a clear sense of direction in your life.

WALK IN THE SPIRIT NOT IN FLESH
"So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God"(Romans8:8).We will always face conflicts between our Spirit and our flesh. Man has three dimensions Spirit, soul and body. A child of God who is led by and influenced by the Holy Spirit operates from the spirit realm. Our spiritual man is formed when we are born again and is developed by obedience to the word and being led by the Holy Spirit; this is the perfect balance in the spiritual realm. The spirit man wants more of God and less of himself, he longs for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
To walk in the spirit is to live under the influence of the spirit. That means we no longer do things according to the desires of our flesh. The word of God teaches us to renew our minds so that we can become like Him. The way to avoid being led by the flesh or our senses is to be continually filled with the spirit of God so that we can walk and be led by Him in all things.

Those who live in the flesh operate in the second dimensions of their humanity-the soul, which is placed where perversions are born. That is why they are selfish, and undisciplined, having uncontrollable appetites. They want more of themselves and less of God. Living according to the desires of the flesh is the same as being led by our senses and sinful nature; the proof that someone is not led by the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, walking in the flesh (senses) opens the door to limitations, unbelief and fear; It is a way of saying ‘’yes’’ to the offers of the enemy.

Crucifying the flesh is part of our priesthood, of presenting ourselves as a living sacrifice before God and leaving our old nature at the altar of sacrifice.  “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service”. (Romans12:1). If you are fighting with matters of the flesh, go to the cross. That is the place where Jesus died, where He paid the price for us to overcome the flesh. This new priesthood comes in the form of spiritual offerings like fasting, praying, giving and worshipping. When we are in the state of sacrifice, the Holy Spirit can speak to our inner being, lead us to all truth and to the will of God, and release His power over us. We must sacrifice our old man, or old nature, in order for our new spiritual man to live. "But the natural man does not receive the things of the spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned’’ (1Corinthians2:14).

Too many Christians are not operating in the miraculous because; there is nothing more real than their reasoning and logic. They consider their fears and impossibilities to be substantial than the Holy Spirit. However, the moment you stop living in the flesh and live in the spirit, the spirit of God becomes more real to you, and you can discern His guidance and directions. He becomes more real than any sickness and diseases, and your natural senses will be sanctified.

GIVE YOURSELF TO A LIFE OF CONSTANT PRAYER
Prayer is a spiritual interface that connects the natural with the supernatural. Jesus often communicated with God through prayer."….men ought always to pray, and not to faint;’’ (Luke18:1). Prayer is the key to supernatural encounters. If you want to encounter the miracle working God, then you must pray.

Prayer is the communication with the father, through which we receive His guidance and direction. And it is the Holy Spirit who enables us to express our deepest needs and requests to the father. "Likewise the spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered’’ (Romans 8:26).

Moses represents the law and Elias represents the prophet, while Jesus represents the Grace (See Luke 9:28-32).Those who pray and those who do not pray are never the same. The glory of the disciples was not seen, verse 32. It was only the glory of Jesus that was seen because; He was the only one that prayed. If you are a Christian that does not pray, your glory will never emerge.

God has good plans for you. However, you do have a role to play. Every good plan needs prayers for it to be actualized. For instance, if you are a pastor and God’s plan for you is to have a big church, you are not to keep quiet and expect it to happen on its own. You need to achieve it through prayers. It is not enough to just pray, you must engage your heart when you pray.

Prayer that does not come from the heart will not produce miracles. Elijah on mount Camel prayed a short prayer but it was so powerful. The prophets of Baal prayed whole day with no result. It is time to engage your spirit man in prayers. If you do, God will answer. Lazarus’s case was a closed one but Jesus connected with heaven.

Some people pray and still want to know if the prayer will be answered or not. Doubt is of the heart. Satan’s major instrument to deal with people is in the area of doubt. For instance, someone who is standing on God’s word on healing, Satan may start to speak, "you are believing God, can’t you see that your blood pressure is going high?’’ can’t you see how you are breathing faster than you should, your sugar level is very high, see how frequent you urinate and the color and the smell of your urine has gone worse’’.

At this point stand on the word, you will be healed if you do not doubt. Healing is the will of God for you. When you say let God’s will be done; you are only saying that the word of God prevails. The will of God is not something abstract as some persons think, it is His word. Anytime you want to pray, pray according to the word. If you need healing, you should pray this way" Lord your word says that by your stripes I am healed, therefore my body, be healed and be made whole now’’.

YIED AND SURRENDER TO THE SPIRIT
To yield and surrender to the spirit is to let God be God, in us and through us. We can know that no change has taken place if there is no increase in the anointing, so we must examine our hearts to see to what extent we have yielded to God. "I am crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who lives, but Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me’’ (Galatians2:20). Thus, we will have the power of the Holy Spirit in the same amount that we yield ourselves to God. Do you have 50 percent of Christ? It is actually what you have surrendered to him.

If you give Him the whole of your life you will receive the whole of Him. If we want to operate under the anointing and guidance of the Spirit without limits, then we must surrender everything, without limits. You must deny yourself and yield all of yourself to the Spirit of God. This is the only way His anointing will increase in us, so that we can be used by Him to minister under open heavens, with all of the power of God. Jesus anointing was without limits because He surrendered everything he had: He didn’t hold anything back. He was completely led by the Spirit because He didn’t focus on Himself but on what the Spirit told Him to say and do.

In the desert, when Moses approached the burning bush, God told him, "Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground’’ (Exodus3:5). We must yield to God’s instruction and surrender our doubt and fears to the Holy Spirit. We must die to our natural senses. Yielding to the Spirit means obedience and absolute surrender, trading the natural of man for the supernatural of God. It is an act that comes from our own will. The Holy Spirit does not make us do things by force, but He does instruct us.
